Dr. Mark Magennis is the founder and Director of the Centre for Inclusive
Technology (CFIT) at the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. CFIT
works to promote, educate and provide technical assistance in Inclusive Design
and digital accessibility.
Mark is one of the leading ICT accessibility experts in Ireland and principal
author of the Irish National IT Accessibility Guidelines and Accessible ICT
Procurement Toolkit. He is active in all areas of digital inclusion, particularly
the web, online services and digital television, and takes part in the formulation
of e-inclusion policy and standards, both in Ireland though the high level
group on knowledge society strategy and within Europe as a representative
of the European Disability Forum and ANEC, the European consumer voice in
the standardisation process. He has managed and worked on a number of European
Union funded research projects on assistive technologies, universal design
tools and accessible computer training. He has also worked extensively in
the commercial sector on software user interface design and, usability evaluation.
